TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Jakarta Police arrested 25 teenagers who were suspected members of a motorcycle gang during a reckless convoy while displaying their group flags.

"We will not tolerate the potential threat to security posed by motorcycle gangs," said Jakarta Central Police Chief, Comr. Susatyo Purnomo Condro, in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

He explained that the officers apprehended dozens of teenagers during a convoy on Benyamin Sueb Street, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. In addition, the police also confiscated 17 motorcycles, three group flags, and two ready-to-explode firecrackers.

Susatyo stated that his team will not tolerate the disturbance caused by motorcycle gangs in the community. Therefore, upon receiving the information, the team immediately went to the location. "This is a preventive measure to stop it from developing into criminal activities," he said.

He elaborated that based on the investigation, the detained teenagers were generally aged between 15 and 22 years old, and some are still students.

Susatyo emphasized the crucial role of parents in educating and supervising their children to prevent them from getting involved in negative social environments. "We urge parents to pay more attention to their children. Do not let your children lose guidance due to busyness, and end up seeking the wrong company," he said.

He also requested parents to guide their children towards positive activities such as sports, arts, or other skills that can support their future. "Do not allow children to grow without supervision and eventually become involved in activities that can harm themselves and others," he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of Samapta Section at Central Jakarta Police, Commissioner William Alexander, emphasized that patrols will be intensified to prevent similar actions. According to him, the officers will continue to pursue groups conducting reckless convoys as it endangers themselves and other road users.

"The detained teenagers have been taken to the Kemayoran Sub-district Police Headquarters for registration and counseling. We will also summon their parents to have a deterrent effect," he added.
