TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's main airport, Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, has operated 324 flights as of Tuesday afternoon after Mount Anak Krakatau's volcanic ash shut it down on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
According to Yudistiawan, Assistant Deputy for Communication & Legal Affairs at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, detailed the resumed air traffic, with 208 departures and 116 arrivals.
"All air corridors have been reopened. Routes to various destinations—including Medan and Aceh—are safe,” he said, as quoted from Antara.
According to Yudistiawan, flight services are gradually returning to normal following updated Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) clearing flight paths across the region.
"We recorded a significant spike in activity as flight schedules normalized,” he said.
By the end of Tuesday, total aircraft movements at the nation’s busiest hub were projected to reach 896 flights, carrying an estimated 113,000 passengers throughout the day.
Airport management emphasized that safety protocols remain rigorous prior to authorizing takeoffs and landings.
Ground crews conducted periodic cleaning across runways, taxiways, and aprons to clear residual volcanic ash.
In addition, airlines are required to perform thorough fleet inspections in compliance with Ministry of Transportation safety directives before aircraft are cleared for service.
To maintain terminal order, airport management urged passengers affected by previous delays or cancellations to check their flight status before traveling to the airport.
"Passengers choosing to reschedule are advised to monitor their updated itineraries. Meanwhile, passengers with confirmed departures for today may proceed directly to Soekarno-Hatta Airport,” Yudistiawan said.
