TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta Airport immigration services have entered the top 10 best in the world in 2025 according to Skytrax, an independent flight rating agency based in London, UK.
In a statement released on the official Skytrax World Airport Awards website, Soekarno-Hatta Immigration competes with 9 other world airports such as Hong Kong, Changi, and Bahrain in first, second, and third positions, as well as Seoul Incheon and Doha Hamad in eighth and ninth positions.
The site explained that the assessment for the Best World Airport Immigration Services covers various aspects such as arrivals and departures, immigration and border control services, including wait times, queue systems, priority lanes, e-gate system efficiency, and immigration staff efficiency and politeness.
Minister of Immigration and Detention, Agus Andrianto, stated that this achievement is a recognition of Indonesia's immigration service transformation and innovation, especially at international airports. "The highest appreciation for the achievement that has been attained by Soekarno-Hatta Immigration, by entering the top 10 Best Airport Immigration Services in the World," said Agus, in a written statement, Saturday, April 12, 2025.
He said that this achievement is the result of hard work and dedication of the inspection officers at Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Checkpoint. According to him, the Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Checkpoint has faced many challenges in performing their duties.
Advanced Autogate
Acting Director General of Immigration Saffar Muhammad Godam stated that the Immigration Department has implemented a digitalization program to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of services at international airports and ports.
One of them is the utilization of cutting-edge autogates so that passengers can experience a seamless process, with inspection processes only taking 10-15 seconds per crossing. Autogates at Indonesian international airports also serve foreigners and even children aged six and above. "This is made possible with Indonesia's electronic visa (eVisa), and increasingly advanced facial recognition technology," said Godam.
The autogate system is also integrated with border control management (BCM) and Interpol data. Up to now, autogates have been operated at several major crossing points in Indonesia, including Soekarno-Hatta Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Kualanamu Airport, Juanda Airport, and Batam Center Port, totaling 264 units. This number will continue to increase to optimize immigration inspection processes at major airports and ports.
In addition to utilizing the latest technology, Agus Andrianto added that the Immigration staff at airports and ports also endeavor to engineer passenger flows during crucial times, such as school holidays, Eid al-Fitr, as well as Christmas and New Year. This way, passenger traffic remains smooth and there are no build-ups.
"We hope that this achievement will be a driving force for all Immigration staff in Indonesia to continue to improve the quality of service," said Agus.
Throughout 2024, Soekarno-Hatta Immigration served a total of 17,166,177 crossings, consisting of 8,615,937 departures and 8,550,240 arrivals. Meanwhile, during the period of January 1-10, 2025, the number of crossings at Soekarno-Hatta Airport was 4,987,378, consisting of 2,473,802 departures and 2,513,576 arrivals.
