TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Professional and Security Division (Propam) of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) Headquarters conducted a case review of the incident involving a Jakarta Metropolitan Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) tactical vehicle that ran over online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver Affan Kurniawan. The case review held today, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, was attended by several parties, including the National Police Commission (Kompolnas).
"Today's case review is scheduled for 9:30 AM WIB (Indonesian Western Time)," said Kompolnas Commissioner M. Choirul Anam on Tuesday in the courtyard of the Propam Division of the National Police Headquarters.
According to Anam, the length of today's case review depended on the material being studied, the questions being asked, the extent of the available evidence, and Propam's level of preparation to present it. He said, "If Propam had provided such comprehensive information from the start, the process wouldn't have taken so long."
He hopes today's case review will set a precedent for future criminal proceedings. "So, hopefully today the ethical construction of the incident will be clear, and secondly, the legal standing regarding the potential criminal charges will be clear," he said.
The incident in which a Brimob vehicle ran over Affan Kurniawan, an online motorcycle taxi driver, occurred amid the chaos that ensued after a protest in front of the House of Representatives/People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR/DPR) building on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The incident occurred in the front area of the Bendungan Hilir II flats in Pejompongan, Jakarta.
Previously, Propam Polri announced that criminal elements were found in the tactical vehicles of two police officers who ran over ojol drivers. The two police officers who are facing criminal charges are Commissioner Cosmas Kaju Gae and Brigadier General Rohmat.
