TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Seated at the head of the table, President Prabowo Subianto was flanked by four colleagues during a meeting on revisions to the Indonesian National Police Law. Two sat on his left and two on his right. Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas sat beside State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. Across from them, Deputy of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad sat alongside Deputy Law Minister Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej.
The one-hour meeting took place at the State Palace on Monday, June 1, 2026. President Prabowo asked about changes to articles and new provisions that had been added to the draft revision of the Police Law. "I sought confirmation from the President regarding the retirement age proposal put forward by the government team," Dasco told Tempo on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Dasco, who serves as Executive Chair of the Gerindra Party, sought clarification from Prabowo because the government and the House had proposed different retirement ages for police officers. The government proposed extending the retirement age for rank-and-file and noncommissioned officers to 59, while commissioned officers would retire at 60.
The House, meanwhile, proposed a retirement age of 60 for all police personnel from enlisted ranks through three-star generals. Four-star generals would be allowed to retire at 63. Both proposals exceeded the retirement age stipulated in the 2002 Police Law, which set the limit at 58 for all ranks.
