TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia and France share the same view on maintaining stability in the Middle East, including through the implementation of the two-state solution and support for Palestinian independence.
Speaking at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Thursday evening, as monitored online from Jakarta, Prabowo said he and French President Emmanuel Macron held similar views on the importance of preserving stability in the Middle East, which he noted has a direct impact on global energy conditions.
“Therefore, peace in the Middle East is in our shared interest. I am also very pleased that France has become one of the pioneers in encouraging many countries in Europe and the West to support the two-state solution and Palestinian independence,” Prabowo said.
“Indonesia continues to believe that peace in the Middle East is impossible without a two-state solution and without justice for the Palestinian people,” he added.
Prabowo said Indonesia and France could play a positive role amid growing global uncertainty and ongoing conflicts.
He stressed that the Indonesian government consistently supports all efforts aimed at maintaining world peace.
The president also noted that in today’s increasingly interconnected world, driven by advances in science and technology, conflict and war would not benefit any country.
“Therefore, we are very pleased that we now have a comprehensive strategic partnership, and we certainly expect to see more concrete, more balanced, and more impactful cooperation in the future,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo also stated that both sides would discuss several strategic areas of cooperation during the meeting, including defense, clean energy, education, research, and the implementation of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA).
