TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto received a Pakistani delegation at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The delegation was led by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Zahid highlighted the historical closeness between the two nations, noting that the relationship predates both countries’ independence.
“I am pleased to say that the relationship between our two nations has existed even before the independence of both our countries,” he said.
He added that bilateral ties have grown even closer in recent months, citing President Prabowo’s visit to Pakistan last month as a major step in strengthening relations.
Zahid also pointed to the increasing frequency of high-level official visits, including Indonesia’s Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Investment Minister and head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, to Pakistan, as well as the Pakistani Health Minister’s visit to Jakarta.
Defense cooperation was one of the key topics discussed during the meeting.
“We have trained Indonesian National Armed Forces officers and will continue to enhance bilateral collaboration in the defense sector,” Zahid said.
When asked about cooperation on the procurement of major defense equipment systems between Indonesia and Pakistan, the ambassador did not provide specific details, but confirmed that all aspects of defense collaboration were discussed.
“We have discussed all aspects of defense cooperation, a very comprehensive collaboration, I can say that,” he stated.
The delegation also addressed the role of each country in international organizations. Zahid noted that Indonesia and Pakistan together represent more than a quarter of the world’s Muslim population, and emphasized their active participation in the D-8 Developing Countries Group, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and ASEAN.
Specifically, Zahid discussed the upcoming High-Level Conference of the D-8, which will be hosted in Indonesia.
“We look forward to cooperation with Indonesia for the success of the upcoming conference in Indonesia, as well as for the success of D-8 as an organization for collaboration among eight developing countries,” he added.
