TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian House of Representatives Commission III Deputy Chair Ahmad Sahroni has urged the National Police (Polri) and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) to work with TikTok and Meta to curb livestreams that encourage street brawls.

Sahroni said the police and Komdigi should block accounts suspected of provoking brawls, arguing that such livestreams spread violent content.

“If it is detected, immediately block the account, then trace who is behind it,” Sahroni said in Jakarta on Saturday.

He said the police and Komdigi should not give any space or platform to accounts that display violence.

Sahroni also said he did not want such violent content to continue spreading and negatively influence young people. He noted that police have continued efforts to crack down on brawl participants on the ground.

He therefore called for efforts to tackle brawls on the ground to be accompanied by measures against their provocation on social media.

“Police work hard to crack down on perpetrators on the ground, but their violent content becomes an inspiration for new perpetrators in other areas. So this brawl problem will never end,” Sahroni said.

Previously, police detained 17 teenagers suspected of planning a brawl at KM 51 of the Jakarta-Bogor Highway in Sukaraja, Bogor Regency.

Sukaraja Police Chief AKP Ade Rahmat said Wednesday, September 16, that the group was detained while waiting for their opponents after previously livestreaming on Instagram.

The livestream was detected by the Bogor Police cyber team, which then informed officers of the group's whereabouts.
