TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Musician Gusti Irwan Wibowo, known as Gustiwiw, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the age of 25. News of his passing quickly spread on social media, where fellow artists and fans expressed their sorrow over the sudden loss of the songwriter and producer.
Just the night before, Gusti was still active on Instagram, resharing posts from followers. One post praised the original soundtrack for the film GJLS: Ibuku Ibu-ibu, composed by Gusti. Actor Ananta Rispo, who starred in the film, expressed deep sadness over Gusti’s passing.
"Innalillahi wainailaihi rojiun. I bear witness that @gustiwiw was a good person, really good, I hope he finds peace and is placed in the best place, may God forgive his sins, may God accept his deeds, aamiin," wrote Rispo an hour ago.
Two days earlier, Gusti had shared his excitement for GJLS: Ibuku Ibu-ibu, directed by Monty Tiwa, which premiered on Thursday, June 12. "What do you think of the movie GJLS Ibuku Ibu-ibu? In my opinion, THIS MOVIE IS AWESOME!!!!" he wrote on X on Friday, June 13. Gusti also recently performed at the 2025 Java Jazz Festival in late May.
Tributes from the Entertainment Industry
Many fellow artists paid tribute to Gusti, sharing fond memories and heartfelt messages. Comedian and writer Raditya Dika wrote on Instagram, "Goodbye @gustiwiw. One of the funniest and most creative people I know. Lucky to have had the chance to know you. You will be missed."
Singer Rian Ekky Pradipta, also known as Rian D’Masiv, shared that he had only just discovered a direct message from Gusti sent years ago. In the message, Gusti mentioned covering a D’Masiv song and asked Rian to listen and share his thoughts.
"Just read his DM @gustiwiw from 2017.. because we didn't follow each other on IG... But we have met a few times... one of the rising stars with a bright future in the Indonesian music industry.. Gone too soon Gus. Al fatihah," Rian posted.
Filmmaker Ernest Prakasa shared a black-and-white photo along with a message of appreciation: "Thank you for brightening this bleak world with your nuances."
Comedians Oki Rengga, Rigen Rakelna, and Arie Kriting also expressed their grief. "May your good deeds be accepted by Allah, Gustiw. We love you," wrote Oki. "Rest well, Gus. We all love you. You are too kind and delightful, bro," wrote Rigen. "Rest in peace brother. Much love and good prayers for you," Arie added.
Singer Vidi Aldiano revealed that he and Gusti had planned to collaborate. "Had a plan to do a show together with you, but God called you first.. rest in peace, kind person, @gustiwiw. Thank you for making my day and many others happy every time you were around. You will be missed," he wrote.
Others found it difficult to put their grief into words. Praz Teguh posted a broken heart emoji over a black background, while Sal Priadi simply uploaded a black screen on Instagram Story. Gusti had taken part in Sal Priadi's ZUZUZAZA concert tour across six cities last year.
Gusti Irwan Wibowo was born on November 28, 1999, in Bekasi. He began his music career in 2019 with the release of his debut song Pertanyaan (Questions). In addition to being a singer, he worked behind the scenes as a producer, songwriter, and composer.
Last year, Gusti mourned the loss of his father, musician Timur Priyono, who passed away on March 29, 2024. Gusti posted a touching tribute on Instagram: "Dad, thank you for being an example for the entire Indonesian society that sincere and productive work leads to a smooth path, so that the impression of the work will never cease. See you, Dad!"
Gustiwiw is remembered as a multi-talented and kind-hearted artist whose music and spirit left a lasting impact on those around him.
