TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) Indonesia has responded to Israel's attack on the Noor Al-Khaabi dialysis center in Gaza, Palestine, on Monday, June 2, 2025. According to the official release from MER-C Indonesia, Israeli forces planted several explosive devices around the building.
Shortly after, a massive explosion was heard, coinciding with the collapse of Noor Al-Khaabi, which is only about 100 meters from the Indonesian Hospital.
"The nearby Abu Safia building also collapsed due to this explosion," said the official release from MER-C Indonesia, quoted on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
MER-C Indonesia mentioned that the building had been evacuated since the siege that occurred some time ago. The building is now leveled with the ground.
MER-C Indonesia also reported that there are still a number of hospital staff, local MER-C Indonesia volunteers, and some residents in the Indonesian Hospital who refuse to be evacuated and insist on staying amidst the increasingly dangerous situation.
The Gaza Ministry of Health previously reported that Israeli strikes had destroyed the dialysis facility for kidney failure patients. Israel bombed the Noura al-Kaabi Kidney Dialysis Center in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza.
The dialysis center, which is part of the Indonesian Hospital, served more than 160 kidney failure patients. It was the only dialysis facility in northern Gaza.
The latest attack occurred a few weeks after the center reopened following a major strike by Israel several weeks ago, according to Muneer al-Bursh, a director general at the health ministry. Footage released by al-Bursh showed an Israeli bulldozer at the location.
The ministry stated that 41 percent of kidney failure patients in Gaza died during the ongoing war. Patients died after being denied access to the dialysis center. The department designated for dialysis patients was also destroyed.
In addition to destroying the dialysis center, Israel also attacked Palestinian aid seekers. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OHCHR) condemned Israel's heinous actions against Palestinian refugees in southern Rafah and near the Netzarim corridor in central Gaza.
