TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad welcomed the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and former President Megawati Soekarnoputri during the Pancasila Day commemoration. Dasco described the gathering as creating a calming atmosphere.
"If we look at it, there is the President, there is Mrs. Mega, there is the Vice President, so the atmosphere is calm. Yes, the atmosphere is good in my opinion," Dasco said at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
He explained that the Pancasila Day commemoration, organized by the Pancasila Ideology Development Board (BPIP), is a collective national celebration based on a presidential decision. For this reason, Dasco viewed President Prabowo’s presence as appropriate in his role as Head of State.
"So the President willingly attended the event and delivered a speech," added the Gerindra Party's Vice Chairman.
Dasco, however, dismissed speculation that the apparent closeness between Megawati and Prabowo indicates PDIP is moving toward joining the Red and White Cabinet. He believes the meeting, which brought together both party leaders on a national occasion, should not be interpreted as a political shift. He also confirmed that PDIP has not yet joined Prabowo’s cabinet.
Earlier, President Prabowo met with former President Megawati at the Pancasila Day event held at the Pancasila Building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Monday, June 2, 2025. This marked their second public encounter following Prabowo’s visit to Megawati’s residence in Menteng for a social call.
Their cordial interaction became apparent in the waiting room before the ceremony began. Prabowo lightened the mood by joking with Megawati, who was seated across from him.
"You're a bit thin, Ma'am. Oh dear, extraordinary. You are thin. Your diet is successful," Prabowo was quoted as saying by Antara. Hearing this, Megawati seemed to agree. "Oh yes, the diet is successful," she said.
Also present at the event were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, former Vice President Try Sutrisno, former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, and Foreign Minister Sugiono.
