TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A landslide occurred at an illegal gold mining site in Dongi Dongi Village, Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi, on Friday, September 11, striking several miners.
Rusmadi, Head of the Operations Sub-section at the Palu Search and Rescue Office (Kansar), stated that, according to the information he received, the miners were only affected by the landslide, and there were no fatalities.
"According to the information we received, no one was buried. The victims only sustained injuries from the impact of the landslide," he said, as quoted by ANTARA.
However, he said that he could not confirm how many people were injured in the incident.
Reportedly, the victims have been evacuated and taken to the nearest medical facility for treatment. They also did not deploy a search and rescue team to the scene because the victims had already been evacuated.
"We received information from a video on social media and subsequently verified it; we learned that there were no fatalities and that the injured had already received medical attention, so no personnel were deployed for a search and rescue operation," he said.
Dongi Dongi Village Head Kalvin Tolu, contacted from Palu, stated that he had not yet received a report on the incident because he was not present at the location.
"I apologize for not keeping track of things last night, as I was in Napu (Lore) hosting guests for the Padungku (harvest festival) celebration," he said.
As of around 12:00 WITA (Central Indonesia Time), there has been no statement from the police regarding the landslide at the illegal gold mining site in Poso.
