TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of Solo fully supports the strengthening of the tourism sector by preparing a strategy for the development of sport tourism through the establishment of the Event and Sport Tourism Division. KONI aims to make sports one of the main attractions for visitors to the city known as the City of Bengawan.
The Chairperson of KONI Solo for the 2025-2029 term, Her Suprabu, said that sport tourism will be developed by organizing sports events to take place throughout the year. Currently, many sports activities in Solo are held without coordination, often resulting in overlaps and clashes.
"We want all sports events to be scheduled from January to December. If they are scheduled, the impact will not only be on sports, but also on the tourism and economy of the city," said Her when interviewed by reporters in Solo on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Potential Increase in Tourist Visits
According to Her, the presence of athletes, officials, and spectators from outside the region at every sports event has the potential to increase the number of tourist visits. They will not only come to compete or watch, but they can also enjoy the cultural, culinary, and flagship destinations that Solo has to offer.
"This sports event will make tourists stay longer. Hotels, accommodations, micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM), and other service sectors can also feel the impact," he said.
He added that KONI Solo is currently preparing a calendar of sports events in Solo as a reference for all stakeholders. With this calendar, the implementation of events is expected to be evenly spread out every month so that sports tourism activities are not seasonal.
In addition to organizing the agenda, KONI Solo is pushing for collaboration with businesses and destination managers. Several private parties are being involved to support the development of sport tourism, such as shopping centers that provide sports facilities and training areas for athletes.
"We want sports to be present in various city spaces, including public areas and business districts. This also revitalizes tourist destinations with positive activities," said Her.
In its development, he mentioned that KONI Solo is also learning from other regions that are considered successful in managing sport tourism. These best practices will be adapted to suit Solo's character as a cultural and sports city.
Through the concept of sport tourism, KONI hopes that Solo will become better known as a destination that is not only rich in culture, but also actively hosts various sports events, thus attracting tourists and driving the local economy sustainably.
