KAI Commuter Slashes Soetta Airport Train Travel Time to 39 Minutes

7 hours ago 4

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT KAI Commuter has shortened the travel time for its Commuter Line service to Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta) to just 39 minutes. This faster journey, starting from BNI City Station to Soekarno-Hatta Airport Station, began today, July 1, 2025.

Asdo Artriviyanto, President Director of KAI Commuter, announced that this is a 10-minute reduction from the previous 49-minute trip. He also revealed an ambitious goal to further reduce this travel time to a mere 30 minutes.

"This speed increase is also aimed at serving around 20 percent, or 10 million passengers, out of the total annual airplane users at Soekarno-Hatta Airport," Asdo said in a written release on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

Asdo explained that this boost in train speed is backed by comprehensive infrastructure improvements along the railway from Duri Station to the Airport Station. Train speeds have now been increased from 75 km/h to 90 km/h on the Duri-Batu Ceper route.

Additionally, the Tanah Abang-Duri route has seen its speed increase from 50 km/h to 80 km/h, and the BNI City-Tanah Abang route from 50 km/h to 70 km/h. Asdo emphasized that these speed enhancements are a direct result of strong collaboration between KAI Commuter, KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, and the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation.

Beyond the acceleration, Asdo also noted an increase in the number of Commuter Line trips to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, with six additional daily trips bringing the total to 70 per day. The airport train operates from 5:00 AM WIB to 10:57 PM WIB.

Regarding the changes, Asdo urged road users crossing the railway to exercise caution. He highlighted that there are still 41 level crossings in the area, comprising 18 official and 23 unofficial ones. "Collaboration with local and central governments is needed to ensure the safety of the journey with this speed increase," he said.

With this reduced travel time, Asdo hopes for a rise in airport train passengers. He reported that as of May 2025, passenger numbers had already reached 883,000. The number of airport train customers has shown growth, from 1.97 million people in 2023 to 2.24 million in 2024. "Faster travel time will greatly assist customers, especially those with flight schedules who need predictable and unobstructed travel," he concluded.
