Israeli Official's ILO Address Disrupted by Protests

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Israeli official was unable to complete his speech at the International Labour Organization (ILO) conference in Geneva on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. As reported by Anadolu, this occurred after delegates repeatedly interrupted his speech in protest in support of Palestine.

Israeli diplomat Waleed Gadban spoke at the 114th International Labour Conference about the General Assembly vote, but his speech was met with continuous protests from participants.

Ministers from several countries, as well as representatives of labor unions, workers, and employers, banged on their tables as Gadban attempted to speak.

Turkey's Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Isikhan, a Turkish delegation member, and the representatives of the Turkish labor unions also joined in the protest.

Several participants displayed Palestinian flags but were warned by security personnel and asked to take them down. Some officials in the hall were also seen wearing scarves bearing the words "Free Palestine."

Although Juan Castillo, the conference president, repeatedly called for order, the protests continued, and Gadban was unable to finish his speech before the next speaker's turn.

This conference brings together workers, employers, and government representatives from the 187 member countries of the ILO to discuss issues shaping the world of work. The meeting will continue until June 12.
