TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia urges Israel to release all ships and volunteers aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 it abducted off Gaza waters. This is conveyed by Presidential Chief of Staff, General (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman, on Tuesday, May 19.
"The Indonesian government urges Israel to immediately release all ships and crew of the detained international humanitarian mission, and to ensure the continued distribution of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in accordance with international humanitarian law," Dudung said at the Presidential Staff Office, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday.
He emphasized that the government continues to monitor developments in the situation through Indonesia's diplomatic network abroad. Indonesian representatives have reportedly verified the location and condition of Indonesian citizens at the scene.
According to Dudung, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the relevant Indonesian representatives, is also preparing various necessary protective measures according to conditions on the ground.
In addition to national measures, Indonesia joined nine other countries—Turkey, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Jordan, Libya, the Maldives, Pakistan, and Spain—in a joint statement condemning "in the strongest terms" Israel's attack on the international humanitarian mission.
"And relevant Indonesian representatives remain on alert to immediately follow up on notices from local authorities," said Dudung.
According to information from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at least 10 GSF vessels have been detained, including the Amanda, Barbaros, Josef, and Blue Toys. To date, the vessel carrying Indonesian journalists has not been able to be contacted, and the status of its crew is unknown.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously stated that it was working with the Indonesian Embassies in Ankara, Cairo, and Amman to prepare protective measures and expedite the repatriation of Indonesian citizens if necessary.
