TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto delivered a speech in Jembrana, Bali, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. During the launch event for the solar power plant (PLTS) program, Prabowo addressed disaster management in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Prabowo said the government responded quickly to the disasters that occurred in several areas. "In NTT, our response was very quick, very massive. We were present everywhere as a nation," said Prabowo as reported by the Presidential Secretariat.
In addition to the NTT disaster, Prabowo also mentioned the handling of disasters in Aceh. He said the government responded quickly when disaster struck Sumatra. "The Aceh disaster was resolved in a time that was unlikely to be predicted by many parties," said the Gerindra Party chair.
President Prabowo has not yet visited the disaster-affected areas in NTT since the main earthquake occurred on August 15, 2026. On Sunday, August 23, 2026, Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi mentioned that Prabowo would visit the region soon.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded 103 deaths due to Tuesday, August 25, 2026's 7.7-magnitude earthquake in NTT. This number has increased from the previous day.
"There have been an additional three deaths, making it 103 people," said the Acting Head of the Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center of BNPB, Berton SP Panjaitan, in a press conference on BNPB's YouTube channel on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
The highest number of casualties was recorded in Manggarai Regency, amounting to 41 deaths, followed by East Manggarai with 34 deaths. Berton stated that the majority of the casualties were women, accounting for 55 percent, and men accounted for 45 percent.
The elderly made up 45 percent of the population, adults made up 37 percent, and children and teenagers made up 12 percent. The rest were toddlers.
Additionally, there were 63 more injured victims, bringing the total to 1,666 people. The majority of the injured were in East Manggarai, with 239 seriously injured and 404 sustaining minor injuries. "Then followed by Manggarai Regency, with 58 seriously injured and 474 sustaining minor injuries," said Berton.
Meanwhile, the number of displaced individuals has increased by 4,804, bringing the total to 185,113. The displaced people are spread across Manggarai, Nagekeo, East Manggarai, West Manggarai, Sika, Endeh, Daun, and Ngada.
