TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has secured a US$17 billion financing commitment from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to support the country's development agenda between 2025 and 2029.
The commitment was among the key outcomes of Purbaya's bilateral meeting with AIIB executives in Beijing, China.
"That is a very significant contribution to financing development projects in Indonesia," Purbaya said in a written statement on Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The funding forms part of a multi-year rolling pipeline that has been jointly discussed with the Beijing-based multilateral lender. While some projects had been planned previously, the Indonesian government said it had successfully secured AIIB's continued support for national development programs over the coming years.
In addition to the financing commitment, Indonesia also received a positive signal regarding AIIB's plan to expand its presence in the country.
According to Purbaya, the bank has expressed interest in opening a representative office in Jakarta to strengthen cooperation and improve coordination in the implementation of AIIB-backed projects.
The proposed office is expected to further deepen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the lender.
"AIIB is also interested in establishing a branch-like office in Jakarta. We certainly welcome the plan, and I hope the office will be operational by June next year," Purbaya said.
The finance minister added that AIIB continues to have strong confidence in Indonesia's fiscal management and economic outlook.
According to Purbaya, the bank raised no concerns regarding the country's fiscal conditions or future growth prospects.
"They are confident in our fiscal credibility and innovation," he said.
The meeting with AIIB was part of Purbaya's working visit to Beijing, which also included discussions with global investors and Chinese financial authorities.
Purbaya said the outcomes of the meetings reflected continued confidence among international financial institutions in Indonesia's economic prospects and the sustainability of the government's fiscal policies.
