TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) approved abolition for sugar import corruption convict Tom Lembong and amnesty for Hasto Kristiyanto, the secretary general of PDIP convicted in a bribery case. Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the request was submitted by President Prabowo Subianto through Presidential Letter Number R43/Pres 07.2025 dated July 30, 2025.
"After a consultation meeting, we have given it consideration and decided for approval," said Dasco in a press conference on late Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Aside from granting abolition to Tom Lembong, the parliament also approved the head of state's proposal to grant amnesty to 1,116 individuals, including Hasto Kristiyanto.
"Approval of amnesty for 1,116 individuals who have been convicted, including Hasto Kristiyanto, was given," said Dasco.
Minister of Justice Supratman Andi Agtas said the amnesty was considered in the spirit of unity ahead of Indonesia's 80th Independence Day commemoration on August 17.
"It was in the interests of the nation and the state," said Supratman at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
Prabowo, he said, also wishes to create a sense of fraternity and a conducive situation within the country, as well as "building the nation together with all political elements."
Tom Lembong was previously sentenced to 4.5 years in prison in the sugar import corruption case. Meanwhile, Hasto Kristiyanto was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison in the bribery case of the former KPU Commissioner, Wahyu Setiawan.
