TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Jeddah and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah have prepared over 700 support staff to be assigned to Saudi Arabian Hajj Pilgrimage Organizers (PPIH) to serve Indonesian pilgrims in Mecca.
Yusron B. Ambary, the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Jeddah, stated that hundreds of officers were recruited from among the mukimin (Muslims) in Saudi Arabia, as well as from among Indonesian students in the Middle East who had adequate Arabic language skills.
"They will be placed in the pilgrims' hotels, in the kitchen, arranging transportation and accommodation, and monitoring the Markaziah area in case any pilgrims get lost or missing," Yusron said after opening the 2026 PPIH Support Staff Technical Guidance (Bimtek) in Mecca on Monday, as quoted by Antara.
Consul General Yusron reminded the officers of three key messages given the vital nature of their work in the Mecca region. First, they must instill an awareness of the immense responsibility of serving God's guests. Second, Yusron asked the officers to be mentally and physically ready using the "Flour Philosophy."
"The flour means they must be prepared for a mess, like in a kitchen, but the result will be a beautiful cake. This means the officers must be prepared to work hard to ensure a successful Hajj pilgrimage," said Yusron.
The third message emphasized the importance of collaboration and teamwork in the field. Yusron emphasized that all PPIH members are like one big family. "I never believed in Superman, there is only a super team," said Yusron.
In addition to meeting the basic needs of pilgrims, the 700 support staff work closely with the Pilgrim Protection Team, which was formed by KJRI in Jeddah.
Yusron instructed officers to act swiftly and report any potential legal cases involving congregation members. Early intervention is crucial to preventing problems from escalating.
"The current trend is that cases that can be resolved early through amicable discussions with local officials usually don't progress to legal proceedings. However, if they do enter the formal legal process, we must follow suit," Yusron said.
