TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - News of a reshuffle among echelon I officials at the Finance Ministry spread early last week. On Tuesday afternoon, April 21, 2026, two days after returning from the United States, reports emerged that Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa had dismissed Director-General of Economic and Fiscal Strategy Febrio Kacaribu and Director-General of Budget Luky Alfirman.
The removal of the two officials took place quietly. The news was confirmed the following day when Purbaya was questioned by journalists after a meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy office in Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta. “Yes, that’s correct, acting officials have been appointed,” he said.
At a media briefing at the Financial Education and Training Agency (BPPK) office in South Jakarta on Friday, April 24, Purbaya announced the appointment of Ferry Ardianto as Febrio Kacaribu’s replacement, while also serving as Director of Welfare and Economic Equity Strategy. Luky Alfirman’s replacement is Sudarto, who previously served as an expert staff member for state expenditure.
Three officials said the decision to replace the two directors was made swiftly after Purbaya received reports on their performance. Febrio, one official said, was deemed as designing policies without Purbaya’s knowledge, triggering controversy. One example was the plan to impose value-added tax (VAT) on toll roads.
