TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has filed an appeal against the High Court's decision to dismiss his request to serve the remainder of his prison sentence in the corruption case involving SRC International under house arrest.

His lawyer, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, confirmed that the appeal was submitted on December 24, as reported by The Star on Monday, December 29, 2025.

On December 22, the High Court rejected Najib's judicial review, stating that the additional order allegedly issued by the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong was beyond the constitutional framework and therefore invalid and unenforceable.

Currently, 72-year-old Najib is serving the sentence imposed by the High Court, which found him guilty of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering involving RM42 million misappropriated from SRC International, a former 1MDB subsidiary.

He has exhausted all appeal efforts in the high-profile SRC case but failed to overturn his sentence and conviction.

On February 2 last year, the Pardons Board reduced Najib's original 12-year jail term and RM210 million fine to six years in prison and a RM50 million fine. According to the statement, Najib is set to be released on August 23, 2028. His fine has been reduced accordingly.

Two months later, on April 1, 2024, Najib applied for a judicial review, claiming there was a government additional order allowing him to serve the jail term under house arrest.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Farhan stated that an appeal against Najib's verdict and sentence in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case involving RM2.28 billion, imposed by the High Court last Friday, has not yet been filed at the time of writing this news.

"The 1MDB appeal will be filed shortly once we get the formal order from court in order for us to verify," he said.

On December 26, the High Court handed Najib a 15-year prison sentence and a RM11.4 billion fine (approximately Rp47.1 trillion) for all 25 charges in the 1MDB case.
