Early Morning Police Patrol Stops Potential Teen Brawl in Central Jakarta, Weapons Seized

1 week ago 5

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Pioneer Precision Patrol Team of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police successfully prevented a potential brawl on Jalan Utan Panjang III, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, in the early hours of Monday, June 2, 2025.

Commissioner General Susatyo Purnomo Condro, Chief of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, stated that the incident was averted around 3:30 AM during a routine patrol, when officers encountered a suspicious group of teenagers.

"After being examined, we apprehended three teenagers who were suspected of planning to engage in a brawl," said Susatyo in an official statement on Monday, June 2, 2025.

The individuals taken into custody were identified as EN (20), DA (15), and RA (15), all local residents. A search of the area led officers to discover five sharp weapons believed to be intended for the confrontation.

"The evidence that was successfully confiscated includes four machetes and one crowbar, which were found not far from the location, after they attempted to discard them upon seeing the officers approaching," stated Susatyo.

Police Commissioner William Alexander, Chief of the Samapta Unit, credited his team’s quick response for preventing the situation from escalating. He explained that, following reports from the Ambon Pioneer Precision Patrol Team and the Brimob Unit, officers swiftly apprehended the suspects along with the weapons.

"We immediately took them to the Kemayoran Sub-Precinct for further examination," said William. Authorities are currently investigating the suspects’ motives and whether others were involved.

William noted that the suspects could face charges under Article 2 paragraph (1) of Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 concerning the possession of sharp weapons, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

He also emphasized that Central Jakarta Police will continue conducting intensive patrols to prevent brawls, especially those involving youth, and urged parents to remain vigilant.

"Especially during critical hours, so that they do not get involved in violent actions," he said.
