TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo made history as the first player in football history to score in six World Cups.
This monumental achievement came when Portugal faced Uzbekistan in their second Group K match of the 2026 World Cup in Houston on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The 41-year-old striker needed just six minutes after kick-off to get on the scoresheet.
Ronaldo scored against Uzbekistan with a precise right-footed shot, following a precise cross from full-back Joao Cancelo.
According to FIFA records, Ronaldo has scored at least one goal in every World Cup he has participated in since his debut in 2006, then in 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and most recently in 2026.
This achievement confirms Ronaldo's superiority over his main rival, Lionel Messi.
Although Messi has also appeared in six World Cups, the Argentine superstar failed to score at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
This achievement puts Ronaldo's record for scoring goals in six consecutive editions firmly in his own hands.
In addition to setting a new world record, this goal against Uzbekistan was Ronaldo's ninth career goal in a World Cup finals tournament. This tally officially equals the record held by Portugal's legendary scorer, Eusebio.
As of this writing, the match between Portugal and Uzbekistan is still ongoing.
A victory in this match would significantly increase the Selecao das Quinas' chances of advancing to the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup.
