TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court has scheduled the reading of the verdict for the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Presiding Judge Purwanto S. Abdullah stated that the panel would deliberate and draft the decision for a week after the entire trial process is complete.
"We need time to draft it, so the verdict will be read on Tuesday, June 30, 2026," Purwanto said during the trial on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
Purwanto ensured that when drafting the decision, the panel would consider all the arguments, evidence, and opinions of the parties presented during the trial. He stated that everything that occurred, including arguments, evidence, and opinions, had already been presented in the previous trial sessions.
"Now the panel of judges, with a clear conscience and firm conviction, is deliberating to render the decision and uphold justice through the reading of the verdict," he added.
Nadiem Makarim delivered his final defense plea in the form of a rejoinder on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. The rejoinder was an answer to the prosecutor's reply or defense plea after Nadiem was charged at the Corruption Court in Central Jakarta District Court.
Previously, Nadiem Makarim was sentenced to 18 years in prison, fined Rp1 billion, and given an additional 190 days of substitute imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay compensation of Rp809 billion and Rp4.8 trillion, totaling Rp5.68 trillion, and an additional nine years of substitute imprisonment.
The prosecutor believed that Nadiem violated Article 603 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Law, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP).
Nadiem was accused of violating Article 2 paragraph 1 or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Law on Eradication of Corruption, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. He was accused of enriching himself by Rp809.59 billion. He was also accused of enriching 12 private companies that are vendors of Chromebook.
According to the prosecutor, the selection of Chromebook was solely for Nadiem's business interests to persuade Google to increase investments and deposits to PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa (AKAB). The company was founded by Nadiem. After Gojek and Tokopedia merged in 2021, PT AKAB became known as PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia. Google was listed as one of Gojek's long-term business partners before the merger with Tokopedia.
The prosecutor assessed that the procurement of Chromebook caused state financial losses of Rp2.18 trillion. This amount consisted of Rp1.56 trillion from Chromebook laptop procurement according to the audit by the Financial and Development Supervisory Board (BPKP), and US$ 44.05 million (US$ 44,054,426) or the equivalent of Rp621.38 billion (based on the lowest exchange rate from August 2020 to December 2022) due to the procurement of Chrome Device Management.
