TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Special Region of Yogyakarta Police officially named BMW driver Christianto Pengarapenta Pengidahen Tarigan as a suspect in a traffic accident that claimed the life of Argo Ericko Achfandi, a student of the Faculty of Law at Gadjah Mada University (UGM). The incident took place on Jalan Palagan Tentara Pelajar, Sleman, on Saturday, May 24, 2025. CPP is registered as a student of the Faculty of Economics and Business at UGM.

"This case has been elevated from an investigation to an examination by appointing one suspect, the BMW driver with the initials CPP, who is also a student and from the same campus as the victim," stated Chief of Public Relations of the Yogyakarta Regional Police, Commissioner General Ihsan at the Yogyakarta Regional Police headquarters in Sleman, DI Yogyakarta, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

Based on a report from Antara, Ihsan stated that the appointment was made after a case discussion and on-site investigation involving investigators from Sleman Regional Police and the Traffic Accident Analysis (TAA) team from the Yogyakarta Regional Police Traffic Directorate. Prior to being handled by the Yogyakarta Regional Police, the case was initially handled by the Sleman Regional Police

"From the beginning, the Chief of the Yogyakarta Regional Police has been very serious and we are committed to immediately clarify the actual facts related to the case," he asserted.

Ihsan mentioned that Christianto Pengarapenta Pengidahen Tarigan is charged with violating Article 310 paragraph (4) of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transport, which regulates traffic accidents resulting in death.

Police Interview Six Witnesses

So far, investigators have questioned six individuals, including eyewitnesses at the scene and parties directly related to the incident. Based on the examination of the suspect, witnesses, and scientific evidence from the on-site investigation, the investigators concluded that there is sufficient evidence to elevate CPP's status to that of a suspect.

However, Ihsan revealed that the suspect is not currently detained and the summoning process is ongoing. "After we summon them, we will question and immediately detain them," he explained.

Driver Tests Negative for Alcohol and Drugs

Regarding allegations of alcohol influence, the results of urine tests and medical examinations on CPP at Sleman Regional Hospital on the day of the incident showed negative results. "No alcohol or drugs were found in the driver's urine. So, this refutes some opinions on social media," stated Ihsan.

As for the speed of the vehicle at the time of the accident, he mentioned that the TAA team is still conducting further assessments. Everything is done through scientific investigation methods.

"So, the approach is scientific. How to determine braking techniques, how to determine distances between vehicles, including speed. This is truly objective," he said.

Ihsan affirmed that the entire legal process will be carried out professionally and transparently. "We will be professional, no one can intervene in this process. So, we emphasize that we will be professional and transparent," stated Ihsan.
