TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta has received an early weather warning for heavy rain to very heavy rain from the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for the period from today until January 1, 2026. Jakarta is among several other areas, including Banten and West Java, which are its immediate neighbors.
Other regions such as Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra are still recovering from flash floods at the end of November. There are also the Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, Lampung, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, and Papua Highlands.
Several areas continue to receive the same early weather warning after the New Year, for the period of January 2-5, 2026. These areas include the Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung, East Java, West Sulawesi, and Papua Highlands. During this period, Jakarta has received an early weather warning for strong winds.
According to the BMKG, the weak La Nina condition and the surge of cold air from the Asian continent (cold surge) will continue to affect the weather conditions in most parts of Indonesia for the next few days. The cold surge is even predicted to strengthen. Other contributing factors are the relatively warm sea surface temperatures, as well as the active combination of the Madden-Julian Oscillation from the Indian Ocean, and the Kelvin and Rossby Equatorial atmospheric waves.
Apart from that, there is the Tropical Cyclone Hayley in the Indian Ocean south of East Nusa Tenggara, moving southward. Then, there is a potential for cyclone 90S in the southwestern Indian Ocean near Lampung, and a cyclonic circulation in the western Indian Ocean near Aceh.
All the early weather warning information and the influencing factors are cited from the Weekly Weather Outlook for the period of December 30, 2025 - January 5, 2026. The weather outlook is issued by the BMKG's Public Meteorology Directorate on Monday, December 29, 2025.
