TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Flooding in Bali has rendered the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in a state of "force majeure." Nonetheless, the airport's management claims that flights to and from the airport are still operating normally until Wednesday night, September 10, 2025.

The Communication and Legal Division Head of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, stated that despite the force majeure situation, the airport's management and all stakeholders can maintain service standards.

It is known that the flooding in Bali was caused by heavy rain that drenched the island, especially Denpasar, for more than 24 hours since Tuesday (9/9) morning. Flooding occurred in almost all parts of Denpasar and the surrounding regencies.

Despite the force majeure situation, all airport operations in South Bali are still running normally as of the time of this report. The airport's management, along with relevant parties, continues to handle the situation and take mitigation measures. "These include adding passenger seating facilities, arranging terminal service personnel, and advising prospective passengers to arrive at the airport earlier," said Eka Sandi.

Advisory for Prospective Passengers

He mentioned that the same advisory has been conveyed by the airlines, urging prospective passengers to consider the extra time needed to reach the airport. Several vital access points to the airport have been paralyzed by flooding, requiring passengers to seek alternative routes.

"We have also coordinated with all airlines to anticipate potential passenger delays and the need for special assistance such as rescheduling or other mechanisms," Eka Sandi stated.

In addition to supporting departing passengers from Bali, the management of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport has also coordinated with ground transportation operators to prepare the fleet needs for arriving passengers.

"To meet the intermodal transportation needs of arriving passengers in Bali, we have intensively coordinated with airport ground transportation operators to arrange the availability of vehicles amidst the congestion that has occurred on many routes to and from the airport," he said.
