TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Business manager at state-owned passenger ferry operator PT Angkutan Sungai, Danau dan Penyeberangan (ASDP) Indonesia Ferry’s Kupang branch, Ramlan Iyang, announced that all sailings from Kupang to several destinations across East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have been canceled due to severe weather.
"Today, all crossings from Kupang have been canceled due to bad weather," Ramlan told news agency Antara in Kupang on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Prior to his statement, the ASDP Kupang branch had posted an official announcement on its social media account suspending all outbound routes for the day.
Ramlan explained that ferry services from Kupang would resume as soon as weather conditions improve. The suspended routes include the Kupang–Hansisi (Semau Island), Kupang–Rote Ndao, and Kupang–Larantuka (East Flores) crossings.
He added that the cancellation was made in compliance with a sailing advisory issued by the Kupang Harbor Master’s Office. "There is an advisory from the Kupang Harbor Master and Port Authority (KSOP) regarding the sailing ban due to bad weather," he said.
He urged passengers using ASDP’s ferry services to be understanding of the decision, reassuring them that the suspension was done purely for their safety.
Earlier, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Tenau Station issued an early warning regarding high waves across NTT waters.
BMKG Tenau Kupang forecaster Salsabila Ardian stated that waves between 1.25 and 2.5 meters high are expected in the Southern Sape Strait, Northern Flores Waters, Flores–Lamakera Strait, Pantar Strait, Alor Strait, and the southern waters of Flores and Alor.
Furthermore, rougher seas with waves reaching 2.5 to 4.0 meters are likely to hit the northern and southern waters of Sabu Raijua.
