TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has urged his players to deliver a complete performance when they face Morocco in their opening Group C match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday.
Ancelotti warned that Morocco should not be underestimated, describing the North African side as one of the strongest teams on the continent and a well-rounded opponent.
“Morocco is a very strong team with high-quality players, many of whom play successfully in Europe. We have great respect for this team,” Ancelotti said, as quoted by FIFA.
“It is a very organized team with quality in all lines.”
“We must deliver a complete match in all aspects, not overlooking any details in defense, attack, or transitions. We need to focus on the defensive side as well as set-pieces because we have quality in them.”
According to Ancelotti, Morocco is one of Africa’s strongest sides, having regularly competed at the highest level on the continent.
“I don't want to delve into this topic, but it is a very strong and well-equipped team,” he added.
The match will also mark Ancelotti’s World Cup debut as Brazil head coach. The Italian manager said he intends to enjoy the occasion, describing it as one of the proudest moments of his career.
“It's a new experience and a special responsibility and honor to represent the most decorated national football team in the world,” Ancelotti said.
“It's a responsibility and an honor, and I want to enjoy this moment with happiness and joy because it's a beautiful moment in my career.”
Brazil enters the tournament seeking a record-extending sixth World Cup title. The five-time champions are among the favorites in the United States, but Ancelotti stressed that success will depend on maintaining focus from the opening match.
A victory over Morocco would strengthen Brazil’s chances of advancing from Group C, which also includes Scotland and Haiti.
The Seleção heads into the tournament with high expectations as it looks to reclaim the World Cup trophy for the first time since 2002.
