TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump is considering selling or giving away his Tesla car. He bought the car earlier this year as a show of support for Elon Musk. The consideration to sell the Tesla car comes after the fallout between the two.
Quoted from the Financial Express report, on Sunday, June 8, 2025, the red Tesla car worth $80,000 was still parked in the White House yard on Friday morning, June 6, 2025. The White House has confirmed that Trump is seriously considering getting rid of the vehicle.
Trump and the Tesla Car
Trump had previously promoted the purchase as a sign of solidarity with Elon Musk. Tesla's CEO's business and reputation have been impacted due to controversial employment terminations related to government reforms.
In March 2025, Trump turned the White House into a Tesla showroom. He was seen publicly praising the brand and calling the electric vehicle a great product. This was part of a media event intended to show support for Musk, whom Trump described as a victim of radical left-wing criticism.
Tesla was also used in campaign promotions. Trump's Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, and advisor Margo Martin were seen posing inside the vehicle. Martin posted on the X social media platform, "Driving President Trump's Tesla," Martin said.
The Feud between Trump and Elon Musk
Trump's relationship with Tesla founder Elon Musk is no longer cordial. Musk, once Trump's biggest supporter in the presidential election, is now openly criticizing him. On Thursday, June 5, 2025, Trump threatened to terminate government contracts with Elon Musk's companies. Musk, in turn, suggested that Trump should be impeached. This feud has turned their friendship into a quarrel on social media. "The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The issues started on Tuesday, when Musk criticized tax cuts and Trump's spending bill. Initially, Trump held back even though Musk voiced to destroy the bill. Trump broke his silence on Thursday. He told reporters in the Oval Office that he was disappointed with Musk. "Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore," Trump said.
