TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tottenham Hotspur failed to move away from the relegation zone after being held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United in Week 36 of the 2025/26 Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, on Monday, May 11, 2026, local time or at Tuesday morning Western Indonesian Time.
Mathys Tel's goal gave the hosts the lead before Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalized with a penalty.
This result means Spurs are not yet safe from the threat of relegation. Roberto De Zerbi's team remains 17th in the Premier League standings with 38 points, just two points ahead of West Ham United, who are in the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Leeds United are in 14th place with 44 points, according to the official Premier League website.
Leeds were more effective from the start and caused problems for the home defense several times. The first chance came in the 21st minute through Joe Rodon's header, but the ball was saved by Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
Tottenham only began to attack after the half-hour mark. Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentancur threatened, but Leeds' defense remained disciplined in their defense.
The score remained scoreless until halftime.
Tottenham finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute. Mathys Tel put Spurs ahead 1-0 after capitalizing on a corner kick.
However, the same player later conceded a penalty to Leeds. In the 69th minute, Mathys Tel fouled Ethan Ampadu in the box. The referee reviewed the incident via VAR before pointing to the penalty spot.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin stepped up to take the penalty, making it 1-1.
After the equalizer, the match became a tight affair. Leeds even came close to taking the lead in the 13th minute of injury time.
Sean Longstaff nearly scored the winner in the 90+3 minute, but his shot hit the Spurs goalpost.
The final whistle blew, with the score at 1-1, preventing Tottenham from moving further away from the relegation zone.
