TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Trade Minister Tom Lembong breathed fresh air on Friday night, August 1, 2025, after Prabowo's pardon freed him from Cipinang detention center.
Tom expressed his gratitude immediately after leaving prison, an expression he extended to President Prabowo Subianto.
"Tonight I breathe the air of freedom, I want to express my deepest gratitude to God Almighty. I also extend my thanks to President Prabowo Subianto," said Tom in the courtyard of Cipinang Detention Center on Friday night, August 1, 2025.
Tom left the detention center around 10:09 p.m., alongside his wife, Maria Franciska Wihardja, and former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.
Tom Lembong was a sugar import corruption convict who was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison. Despite being declared guilty, judges said Tom did not receive any financial gain for issuing import permits to nine companies, nor was any malicious intent behind his policy proven.
Tom was filing an appeal against the verdict when Prabowo submitted an abolition request for him, which the parliament approved a day later.
KPK Releases Hasto Kristiyanto
Bribery convict and secretary general of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto has also been released from detention following Prabowo's pardon. He was being held at the KPK detention center and left at 9:22 p.m. local time, over half an hour earlier than Tom Lembong's release, according to Tempo's observation.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) released Hasto on late Friday after receiving a copy of the Presidential Decree regarding the amnesty granted by the Ministry of Law.
The man involved in the bribery case against former General Election Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan was wearing a red t-shirt with the words "Soekarno run" and a black suit. Hasto waved to the media crew as he was leaving the building.
Hasto thanked President Prabowo Subianto for granting him the amnesty, claiming it was an honor. "This means what we were voicing during the plea has been answered through his prerogative right as a president," said Hasto as he left the KPK detention center in South Jakarta on Friday night, August 1, 2025.
Hasto Kristiyanto was part of the list of over 1,000 inmates granted amnesty by Prabowo Subianto. The PDIP chief was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison after being proven guilty for providing some of the funds to bribe Wahyu.
The bribe was intended to pave the way for PDIP cadre Harun Masiku to replace Nazarudin Kiemas as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2019-2024 period. Nazarudin passed away before he could be sworn in.
