Russia Lifts Roblox Ban After Mass Protest Letters

1 day ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of Russia has officially lifted the ban on access to the popular American game platform, Roblox. This decision was made after local authorities received tens of thousands of protest letters from children and parents who were dissatisfied with the blocking policy.

Roblox has confirmed that its services are now accessible in Russia, despite having been blocked by the local government previously. "We are aware of the statement issued by the Ministry of Digital Development, and we can confirm access to Roblox in Russia has been restored," said Roblox in a written statement on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

The company stated that it continues to respect the laws and regulations in the countries where they operate. Roblox also reaffirmed its commitment to user protection, especially children.

Roblox mentioned that they are preparing to launch Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts, designed to provide age-appropriate gaming experiences. These features include a continuous game review process and easier-to-understand parental controls for children, teenagers, and parents.

The platform, which allows users to create and share their own games, is one of the most popular mobile entertainment applications in Russia. According to data from the Moscow-based cybersecurity company Kaspersky Lab, Roblox and TikTok were the platforms with the highest usage duration among Russian children in early 2025.

In an official statement released on June 10, 2026, the Russian Digital Ministry mentioned that Roblox had implemented several mitigation measures to improve the safety of child users. One way is through implementing a filtering system that restricts access to game content based on its age classification.

Previously, Russia completely blocked access to Roblox last December. At the time, the Kremlin accused the platform of being a means of spreading extremist materials and promoting LGBT propaganda.

In response to the blockage, a Roblox spokesperson stated that the company is committed to the digital safety of its users and will comply with legal regulations in every country in which it operates.
