TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Erling Haaland fired Manchester City to a narrow 1-0 victory over Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
City remain at the top of the table with nine points from three matches, while Coventry sit at the bottom following three consecutive defeats, according to the Premier League website as cited by Antara.
Coventry created the first chance just eight minutes in when Taiwo Awoniyi fired a shot from inside the penalty area that went narrowly wide of the left post.
Haaland nearly opened the scoring in the 16th minute, but his shot towards the bottom right corner was saved by goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
City kept up the pressure moments later. Rayan Cherki unleashed a powerful close-range shot that struck the right post.
The breakthrough finally came in the 26th minute. Semenyo delivered an accurate cross into the box, and Haaland met it with a header that Rushworth failed to keep out.
Haaland almost doubled the lead before halftime after finding space for a shot, but Rushworth pulled off a brilliant save, ensuring the score remained 1-0 at the break.
City continued to press in the second half. Iliman Ndiaye had a chance with a header from a cross, but the ball sailed over the bar.
Haaland found the net for a second time in the 58th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Coventry began pushing forward in search of an equalizer. Loum Tchaouna broke into the penalty area after linking up with Awoniyi and Caleb Yirenkyi, but his low shot was denied by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The visitors continued to threaten right up to the final minutes. Ellis Simms had a close-range opportunity that was saved by Donnarumma, while a header from Bobby Thomas in the 82nd minute also missed the target.
