TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - New Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said Indonesia will keep its state budget deficit below 3 percent to support economic stability.
"The deficit will remain below 3 percent," Suahasil told reporters after being sworn in at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, September 14, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the health and credibility of the country's public finances to support the government's priority programs in a measured manner.
According to Suahasil, a credible state budget, known as the APBN, is a key instrument for supporting economic growth while maintaining national economic stability.
He said President Prabowo Subianto had instructed the Finance Ministry to maintain accountability and efficiency in the use of state spending.
Suahasil said spending efficiency was intended to ensure that available budget allocations deliver the greatest possible benefits to the public.
Prabowo earlier inaugurated Suahasil as finance minister, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, at the State Palace in Jakarta.
Suahasil's appointment was stipulated in Presidential Decree No. 97P of 2026 on the Dismissal and Appointment of the Finance Minister of the Red and White Cabinet for the remainder of the 2024-2029 term. The decree was issued by Prabowo on September 14, 2026.
