TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will be held from June 14 to July 13, featuring 32 teams competing across 12 stadiums in 11 cities throughout the United States.
According to the FIFA website, the tournament will include several players who have made their mark on the world stage over the past two decades. Among them are 26 FIFA World Cup winners.
Thirteen players from Argentina’s national team, which won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, are set to participate. This includes team captain Lionel Messi, who currently plays for Inter Miami CF. He is expected to appear in their opening match against Egypt’s Al Ahly FC on Saturday, June 14.
In addition, nine French players from the 2018 World Cup-winning squad will take part. This group includes Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe and Los Angeles FC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Three more—Ousmane Dembele, Lucas Hernandez, and Presnel Kimpembe—recently arrived in the U.S. after winning the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that the 2025 edition, the first FIFA Club World Cup to feature 32 teams, reflects the growing scale and competitiveness of the event. He said it brings together top talents from all continents to determine the world's best club.
"This time, there are 26 players who aim to be part of the first team to win both the FIFA World Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup," Infantino said. "We are witnessing history in the making."
He also emphasized the tournament's global reach, with players representing 81 countries. "This tournament will be a dream for every fan, a month-long football feast," he added.
Atletico Madrid leads the list of participating clubs with six FIFA World Cup winners. Argentine club CA River Plate follows with four.
Four other former World Cup-winning nations are also represented. Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer were part of Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning squad. Inter Miami’s Sergio Busquets and CF Monterrey’s Sergio Ramos were members of the Spanish team that won in 2010, along with Xabi Alonso, who now coaches Real Madrid.
