TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Private lender PT Bank Maybank Indonesia set aside a total prize purse of Rp3 billion for the winners of the Maybank Marathon 2026 in Bali. The peak of the annual running event drew 14,100 participants representing 46 countries.
The competition featured four categories: the 42-kilometer full marathon, the 21-kilometer half marathon, a 10-kilometer race, and a dedicated wheelchair division. The race flag-off proceeded in stages, starting with the full marathon at 4:20 a.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA), followed by the half marathon at 5:30 a.m. WITA, the 10-kilometer category at 6:00 a.m. WITA, and the wheelchair division.
Maybank Indonesia President Director Steffano Ridwan noted that the event seamlessly integrates sports with tourism. “Through sustainability, we hope it can have a positive impact on the local community and government,” he said following the announcement of the winners.
Kenya’s Michael Kimani Kamau claimed victory in the Men's Open Marathon category with a time of 2:16:10 at the 15th edition of the Maybank Marathon. Meanwhile, Veronicah Njeri Maina, also from Kenya, captured top honors in the Women's Open Marathon category, completing the course in 2:37:22.
In the Men's National Marathon division, Robi Syianturi took first place with a time of 2:28:30. Meanwhile, the Women's National Marathon title went to Ina Lydia, who completed the race in 3:09:55. Main category winners each received cash prizes of Rp260 million for the Open divisions and Rp100 million for the National divisions.
Steffano Ridwan stated that runner turnout grew compared to last year, bolstered by strong international participation. “Nearly one in ten runners came from [abroad, representing] 46 countries. This is a very good event to showcase Indonesia,” he said.
Maybank Marathon Project Director Bambang Irawan emphasized that the preparation process was long. “For months, we prepared every detail of the event, from course setup and participant safety to medical services, Race Pack Collection, and race-day logistics,” he said.
He noted that the biggest challenge extended beyond managing runner volume to ensuring every participant felt safe, comfortable, and proud from start to finish.
Isania Tarigan, a runner from West Java, finished as runner-up in the Women's National Marathon category, securing a cash prize of Rp18 million. Speaking after the race, she reflected on her experience tackling the marathon routes in Bali.
She said that members of the local community turned out enthusiastically to cheer on the runners. “The residents were very supportive with their cheers,” she said following the winner announcement, adding that the local crowd gave exhausted runners a vital boost of energy.
