JCI Gains as Investors Welcome Measures to Ease Market Turmoil

7 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) closed higher on Wednesday as investors expressed appreciation for the policies implemented in response to financial market turmoil in the country.

The JCI ended stronger by 155.73 points or 2.71 percent to 5,902.38. Meanwhile, the group of 45 prominent stocks, or the LQ45 index, rose 20.16 points or 3.54 percent to 589.48.

"The rebound in JCI is supported, among other factors, by the correction in global crude oil prices and the strengthening of the rupiah exchange rate. In addition, domestic investors are appreciating the government's response to the turmoil in the Indonesian capital market," said Chief Researcher of Phintraco Sekuritas, Ratna Lim, during her analysis in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Within the country, JCI continued to strengthen in response to market players' positive reaction to domestic policies related to the capital and monetary markets.

On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, discussions were held between the House of Representatives, Danantara Indonesia, the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara), the Social Security Administering Body (BPJS), and state-owned enterprise insurance companies regarding the planned buyback program for big-cap state-owned enterprise stocks.

On the same day, Bank Indonesia (BI) raised its reference interest rate by 25 bps to 5.50 percent through its Weekly Governor's Meeting (RDG).

The increase in the BI Rate had an impact on the strengthening of the rupiah exchange rate by 114.00 points or 0.63 percent to 17,944 per US dollar at the close of trading on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, in the international arena, the stock exchanges in the Asia region weakened due to geopolitical tension following the U.S. launching a retaliatory strike against Iran in response to the downing of a U.S. helicopter.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the Iranian military would not let any attack or threat go unanswered. This has raised concerns about broader regional instability and pushed up oil prices.

High global energy prices due to regional conflicts have sparked concerns about inflation and the possibility of central bank interest rate hikes. On the other hand, the market is awaiting the latest U.S. inflation data for new insights into the prospects of Federal Reserve policies.

Initially weakening, JCI moved into positive territory by the end of the first trading session. In the second session, JCI remained in the green zone until the end of the stock trading session.

Based on the IDX-IC Sectoral Index, all eleven sectors strengthened, led by the transportation & logistics sector, which increased by 4.43 percent, followed by the technology and property sectors, each increasing by 3.57 percent and 3.17 percent, respectively.

The stocks that experienced the biggest price gains were BABY, KBLV, FOLK, ASLI, and LCKM. Meanwhile, the stocks that experienced the biggest price declines were TPIA, APIC, ARKO, GMTD, and KJEN.

The frequency of stock trading was recorded at 3,105,109 transactions, with a total of 46.67 billion shares traded, worth Rp31.72 trillion. A total of 571 stocks rose, 148 stocks fell, and 96 remained unchanged.

In the regional Asian stock exchanges this afternoon, the Nikkei index weakened by 1.66 percent to 64,330.00, the Shanghai index weakened by 0.42 percent to 3,993.23, the Hang Seng index weakened by 0.64 percent to 24,407.96, and the Straits Times index weakened by 1.28 percent to 4,958.85.
