Indonesia Seeks More UAE Investment for Food Security

2 days ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is eyeing an increase in investment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to strengthen the national supply chain and food resilience. This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.

"Indonesia welcomes the commitment of the UAE and global players such as Louis Dreyfus Company to expand economic cooperation in Indonesia. We encourage increased investment that supports downstreaming, food resilience, and strengthening the national supply chain," said Airlangga, as quoted by Antara, Monday, June 15, 2026.

Airlangga stated that the UAE is one of Indonesia's strategic partners in the Middle East region. He mentioned that the implementation of the Indonesia-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-UAE CEPA) could further enhance the trade and investment flows between the two countries.

The government also reiterated its support for the sustainability and development of business activities of UAE-origin companies operating in Indonesia, including Louis Dreyfus Company, which has been present for 25 years.

Meanwhile, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri expressed appreciation for the positive and evolving bilateral relations between the two countries. "The UAE views Indonesia as an important partner in the Southeast Asia region and is open to expanding collaboration in various economic sectors," said Abdulla.

During the meeting, the UAE also conveyed several strategic investment commitments. Abu Dhabi Export (ADEX) is said to have committed to investing with a focus on strengthening national food resilience. This commitment is seen as reflecting the UAE's confidence in the potential of Indonesia's food and agribusiness sector, while also strengthening the long-term economic partnership between the two countries.

In addition to the food sector, cooperation is also directed towards infrastructure development. Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP) expressed readiness to support the development of the airport in Bali through the implementation of a feasibility study.

The Indonesian government and the United Arab Emirates agreed to maintain bilateral communication intensity to ensure various investment commitments can be effectively realized. Both countries are also committed to strengthening investment synergy, providing business certainty for strategic investors, and expediting the implementation of priority projects that support sustainable economic growth.
