TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-17 national team will focus on a five-month preparation for the 2025 U-17 World Cup in Qatar in November. PSSI Chairperson Erick Thohir met with Garuda Muda coach Nova Arianto and team manager Ahmed Zaki.

Erick revealed that the meeting was held to discuss the preparations for the Indonesian U-17 national team, which will compete in the 2025 U-17 World Cup in Qatar. PSSI, he said, will conduct several training camps in the country and abroad over the next five months. The U-17 national team plans to have friendly matches against countries participating in the 2025 U-17 World Cup. "This preparation allows Garuda Muda to perform at their best on the world stage for Indonesia," he said on his social media account, Thursday, June 12, 2025, as reported by Antara.

Garuda Muda will have a training camp in the country, specifically in North Sumatra, in August. Under Nova's guidance, the team is scheduled to play friendly matches against three countries participating in the 2025 U-17 World Cup, but the countries have not been disclosed.

Three fields have been prepared for the U-17 national team's training camp, including the Kebun Bunga field, Jalan Pancing football field, and the Main Stadium of North Sumatra in Deli Serdang.

In the 2025 U-17 World Cup, in Group H, Indonesia is alongside four-time champions Brazil, Honduras, and Zambia, who are making their debut. This prestigious 20th edition tournament will be held from November 3-27. A total of 48 participating countries will compete. This edition has twice as many participants as the previous one.

In the group stage, the group winner and runner-up, as well as the eight best third-place teams, will advance to the knockout round. This round begins with the round of 32 and continues through the final.

The Indonesian U-17 national team is one of the nine Asian teams that qualified for the 2025 U-17 World Cup. This is the second appearance for the Garuda Muda squad in this event, following the 2023 edition when they were the host. At that time, Indonesia was eliminated in the group stage.
