TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - India has been named the most affordable country for digital nomads, according to a recent report by Global Citizen Solutions, a company specializing in residency and citizenship through investment. The same report listed Indonesia in fourth place.

Travel + Leisure reports that the Global Digital Nomad 2025 report was compiled by analyzing the cost of living, co-working expenses, and hot desk costs. Factors taken into account include housing, necessities, transportation, and other essential living costs.

Delhi and Mumbai are popular destinations in India, known for their vibrant and bustling culture and affordable cost of living. Goa can also be an interesting destination due to its stunning beaches, UNESCO-recognized churches, and unique Portuguese-influenced cuisine.

"The digital nomad phenomenon has evolved from a niche lifestyle choice to a mainstream economic driver," said Laura Madrid Sartorett, lead researcher at Global Citizen Solutions, in a statement.

The report evaluated digital nomad visa programs in 64 different countries and found that 91 percent of the nomad programs were launched since 2020.

After India, the most affordable countries for remote workers are Ecuador, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Colombia.

Most Expensive Countries

On the other hand, countries such as Iceland and Norway have high quality of life rankings, but are expensive places to live and work. The Netherlands tops the list for quality of life, which considers public infrastructure, security, and cultural appeal.

Many digital nomad programs encourage temporary stays, but some offer long-term opportunities to remain in the country. Global Citizen Solutions found that, of the countries analyzed, 14 offer pathways to permanent residency status and three offer direct pathways to citizenship.

Here are the 10 most affordable destinations for digital nomads, according to Global Citizen Solutions.

  1. India
  2. Ecuador
  3. Malaysia
  4. Indonesia
  5. Colombia
  6. Namibia
  7. South Africa
  8. Armenia
  9. Mauritius
  10. Serbia
