TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The flight attendants who were aboard Alaska Airlines' flight last year filed a lawsuit against aircraft manufacturer Boeing on Friday, August 1, 2025. They were injured when the door plug came off in 2024, causing the cabin to be exposed to the outside.

"As a direct and proximate result of the ejection of the door plug and the resulting decompression, Plaintiff sustained physical and mental injuries, severe emotional distress, and other damages of a personal and pecuniary nature,"  said the four flight attendants in their lawsuit regarding the January 2024 incident, as reported by Anadolu.

"This act of negligence caused both physical and mental damages, which profoundly impaired my personal and professional life. It also resulted in many challenges to return to my dream job that I had proudly made my career," said crew member Michelle Hughes in a statement.

"This event is something that never should have happened. I'm committed to seeking justice, accountability and making the sky a safe place," said another cabin crew member, Christine Vasconcellos.

According Tracy Brammeier, a flight attendant representative, the four crew "acted courageously" during the incident last year. "Following their training and putting their passengers' safety first while fearing for their lives. They deserve to be wholly compensated for this life-altering, traumatic experience caused by Boeing's negligence in the 737 MAX production process," Brammeier told ABC, as quoted by Anadolu.

The legal action was initiated in the King County Superior Court in Seattle, Washington. Boeing opted not to provide a statement regarding the legal claim.

The company consistently stated that they have cooperated with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigation into the incident. "In a transparent and proactive fashion, we have supported all regulatory inquiries into this accident."

On January 5, 2024, shortly after flight 1282 of Alaska Airlines took off from Portland International Airport, the middle panel of the Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft's door came off. A passenger video showed a gash at the detached panel location. Despite the alarming incident, the aircraft successfully made an emergency landing without any reports of serious injuries.
