TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Some of Venezuela's petroleum infrastructure is expected to remain unaffected by the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck the country, citing Sputnik, as quoted by ANTARA.
Earlier on Thursday, Venezuela's vice president and acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, said that several buildings in Caracas were damaged by a series of strong earthquakes, including homes, as well as in the states of Miranda, La Guaira, Aragua, Carabobo, and Falcon.
The Venezuelan government has declared a state of emergency and is carrying out search-and-rescue operations.
According to RIA Novosti, a Caracas resident said that internet services and mobile communications were disrupted after the earthquake.
The resident said that cellular and internet signals are intermittent, making it difficult to send messages. Their wired internet connection at home is also not working.
The resident said the well-built houses in Caracas could withstand an earthquake. However, many semi-permanent homes and buildings with structural defects reportedly collapsed.
