TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manchester United (MU) avoided defeat by drawing 1-1 against Fulham in Matchweek 5 of the 2026/27 Premier League season at Craven Cottage on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
Fulham took the lead through a Lisandro Martinez own goal in the 63rd minute. The Red Devils then equalized via Cunha in the 89th minute.
This result leaves Manchester United with five points from five matches, sitting in 12th place in the standings.
Meanwhile, Fulham remains in the relegation zone with two points from five games, occupying 19th place, according to the official Premier League website as cited by Antara.
Fulham had the first chance in the 5th minute through Gonzalo Garcia. Receiving a pass just outside the penalty area, Garcia fired a shot that went narrowly wide of the left post.
Manchester United responded five minutes later. Lisandro Martinez pounced on a rebound from outside the box, but Bernd Leno made a brilliant save to deny his effort.
Manchester United had another golden opportunity in the 25th minute. Bruno Fernandes broke into the penalty area before unleashing a powerful shot, but the ball struck Fulham's left post.
Fulham threatened again through Oscar Bobb in the 30th minute. Finding space inside the box, Bobb fired a shot that went wide of the left post.
Manchester United nearly took the lead a minute later. Matheus Cunha fired a shot from the edge of the box that hit the right post.
Both teams struggled to create dangerous chances after the start of the second half.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 63rd minute, with Fulham benefiting from an own goal.
Alex Iwobi fired a shot on target that was parried by Senne Lammens, but the ball deflected off Lisandro's leg and went into his own net. Fulham led 1-0.
Manchester United immediately sought an equalizer. In the 67th minute, Bryan Mbeumo fired a mid-range shot towards the left side of the goal, but Leno managed to save it.
Cunha had another opportunity in the 74th minute. Receiving a pass at the edge of the penalty area, the Brazilian forward aimed a shot towards the bottom right corner. Leno made another save to deny the chance.
Manchester United finally equalized in the 89th minute. Patrick Dorgu played the ball to Cunha at the edge of the penalty area.
Cunha then unleashed a shot that deflected off a Fulham player, changing direction and wrong-footing Leno.
The scoreline became 1-1. There were no further goals before the final whistle, so both teams had to settle for sharing the points.
