TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that thick clouds and hazy conditions will cover the majority of major cities in Indonesia this Thursday.
BMKG forecaster Miftah Ali, speaking during a weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta on Thursday, explained that cloudy skies are likely to prevail over Tanjung Pinang, Padang, Jambi, Pangkalpinang, Palembang, the entire island of Java, and Samarinda.
In addition to cloud cover and rainfall, the BMKG forecasts potential haze in Pekanbaru, Bandar Lampung, Pontianak, and Palangka Raya, as well as potential smoke or fog in the Banjarmasin area.
"There is a potential for thunderstorms in Tanjung Selor, and light rain in Banda Aceh, Medan, and Bengkulu," said Miftah.
Turning to eastern Indonesia, he added, the BMKG forecasts light-intensity rainfall in several areas.
"In eastern Indonesia, we are monitoring the potential for light rain in Mamuju, Palu, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya," he stated.
Meanwhile, weather conditions ranging from partly cloudy to heavily cloudy are expected to dominate other eastern regions, including Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, and Merauke.
Beyond rainfall and cloud cover, the BMKG also notes the potential for haze in Manokwari and smoke or fog in Nabire.
