Barzan Holdings Highlights Indonesia as Southeast Asia's Top Defense Market

1 day ago 8

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Barzan Holdings has declared a long-term partnership in the defense industry with the Indonesian government. Rashid Al-Mohanadi, Senior Manager of Barzan Holdings' international Markets, stated that Indonesia is one of the biggest markets in Southeast Asia.

"For us, entering Indonesia is a strategic decision. First, Indonesia is a brotherly and allied country. Second, it is the largest Southeast Asian market," he said when met at the IndoDefence 2024 exhibition at JIExpo, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Rashid stated that Indonesia has a vast territory, including waters, which requires various defense systems. One form of long-term partnership commitment is Barzan Holdings, which established a company in Indonesia named PT Indonesian Defence and Security Technologies (IDST).

Military equipment already supplied to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) includes mortar systems, used by special forces. Additionally, there are battle management systems and various protective equipment for the military.

Barzan Holdings' vision in Indonesia, Rashid said, is long-term. "That is the nature of the defense industry. If you want to be a major player, you have to commit to long-term partnerships," he said.

Barzan Holdings is a government-owned defense industry company from Qatar, established in 2017. They produce various types of weaponry, including ammunition, firearms, and anti-drone systems. They also invest in different defense products and solutions. "So, we were established at the direction of the state to develop the defense industry," he said.

In the Qatar pavilion at IndoDefence 2024, Barzan Holdings, through PT IDST, showcased complete combat clothing such as shirts, pants, and bulletproof helmets. Additionally, there are various types of armor, magazine pouches, medical pouches, military backpacks, pistol pouches, and raincoats.

The company displayed pistols, long-barreled rifles, and accessories, such as scopes and grips. They also had bullets ranging from 5.56 to 9 millimeters.
