TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that Indonesian citizens visiting the European Union for the second time or more will find it easier to obtain a multi-entry Schengen visa. This came following the conclusion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) decade-long negotiations.
Ursula stated that the interconnectivity between European Union's and Indonesia's societies is crucial in enhancing their cooperation. Thus, the communities should be the first to benefit from the close relationship between the European Union and Indonesia.
"So I am pleased to announce that the European Commission has adopted a decision on the visa cascade. It means that from now on, Indonesian nationals visiting the EU for a second time will be eligible for multi-entry Schengen visas," said Ursula in a joint statement quoted from her official statement.
According to Ursula, visa leniency for Indonesian nationals will not only facilitate visits to Europe but also encourage investment, overseas studies, and people-to-people connectivity.
Requirements for Obtaining a Multi-entry Schengen Visa
As per visaguide.world, in order to obtain a long-term multi-entry Schengen visa, you need to fulfill several requirements:
1. Valid Reason for Multiple Visits
Multi-entry visas are usually granted to individuals who are likely to frequently travel to the Schengen area, such as:
- Business professionals who travel back and forth for work, backed by an invitation letter from a partner or company in the Schengen country along with the details of their business activities.
- Researchers working at universities or research institutions requiring periodic visits.
- Athletes, artists, seafarers, or other specialized professions with international activities requiring high mobility.
2. Good Travel History
- To apply for a one-year multi-entry visa, you must have lawfully used three Schengen visas in the last two years.
- For a three-year visa, you must have had and used a one-year multi-entry visa in the last two years.
- For a five-year visa, you need to have had and used a multi-entry visa valid for at least two years in the last three years.
3. Sufficient Proof of Financial Means
Applicants must also demonstrate that they have adequate financial capability to support their living expenses and activities during their stay in the Schengen zone, whether for tourism, professional work, arts, or other purposes.
Required Documents
The following are the documents and requirements needed when applying for a multi-entry Schengen visa:
1. Application form
You must fill in and sign the Schengen visa application form. All provided information must be complete and accurate.
2. Passport or travel document
Your passport must be valid for at least three months after the departure date from the Schengen area, or after the last departure if conducting multiple visits. The passport must also have a minimum of two blank pages and be issued within the last 10 years.
3. Passport-sized photo
Attach a recent passport-size photo (within the last six months) with a white background. The face must be clearly visible, facing directly towards the camera, with good lighting and contrast. Head coverings are only allowed for religious reasons, as long as the face remains visible.
4. Travel itinerary
Include details of your travel plans, such as proof of flight ticket bookings and hotel reservations.
5. Purpose of travel documents
You must provide an explanation and supporting documents indicating the reason for your visit to the Schengen member states, as the basis for applying for a multi-entry visa.
6. Accommodation details
Provide details of where you will be staying in Europe, along with evidence that you have sufficient funds to cover the accommodation expenses.
7. Financial evidence
Show proof that you have sufficient funds to finance your entire stay, return trip, or travel to another country (if in transit).
8. Travel health insurance
You need to have travel insurance valid in all Schengen member countries and covering the entire duration of your visit. The minimum coverage for the insurance should be 30,000 euros. You also need to sign a statement acknowledging the importance of this insurance for each subsequent visit.
9. For accompanying spouse or children
If you are traveling with a spouse or child, include documents declaring familial relationship, such as a marriage certificate for a spouse or a birth certificate for a child.
