TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Qatar and Saudi Arabia have been chosen to host the matches of the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the Asian zone. The AFC announced this through an official statement on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The fourth round is the competition for the two direct tickets to the 2026 World Cup. Six teams will compete, including the Indonesian National Team. The other five teams are Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

In the upcoming fourth round, the six teams will be divided into two groups consisting of three teams. They will compete in a centralized format from October 8 to 14.

The winners of each group will secure the last two automatic tickets to the final round of the 2026 World Cup. Meanwhile, the second-ranked teams from both groups will face each other in the fifth round or playoffs.

In the fifth round, the second-ranked teams will play matches in two legs on November 13 and 18. The winning team will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs.

The official draw for the fourth round of groups in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers for the Asian zone is scheduled for July 17.

The Indonesian national team will enter the fourth round of qualifiers after finishing fourth in the third round. In their last match, the Garuda Team lost 0-6 to Japan.

PSSI Chairperson Erick Thohir expressed his commitment to improving the performance of the Indonesian national team. "We are preparing the team to perform better in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers," said Erick on his Instagram account after the defeat to Japan.
