TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Premier League or English Football Premier League has announced that Microsoft has become its official partner in the fields of cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This partnership also modernizes the league's digital infrastructure, broadcasts match analysis, and organizational operations.
One form of collaboration between the two parties is the launch of the Premier League Companion, which helps fans explore everything about matches in the English League. Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters stated that this partnership will assist management and provide fans with personalized experiences.
"We hope to work together for the next five years to provide more innovative experiences for all Premier League supporters worldwide," said Richard in his written statement on the official Premier League website, Tuesday, 1 July 2025.
The partnership focuses on four main areas: fan engagement, match insights and analysis, cloud transformation, and organizational productivity. The expected outcome is to build the most advanced and secure media, data, and AI platform for sports.
Microsoft's Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Judson Althoff, stated that Premier League's utilization of services includes Microsoft 365 Copilot and Dynamics 365."We will change how football is enjoyed, delivered, and managed on and off the field," said Judson.
In addition, it includes Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, including Azure OpenAI in Foundry Models. All match data will be archived, allowing fans to access more in-depth and interactive content of their favorite matches.
How to Use the Premier League Companion
The AI feature is available on the Premier League website, located in the top right corner with the Copilot logo. The feature will help explore match statistical data from over 30 seasons, 300 thousand articles, and 9 thousand videos. "It is personalized for you if you join myPremiereLeague," the statement reads.
The AI feature can help users explore the Premier League archive, for example by entering a command to show iconic moments in a match. Additionally, it can request information about a club or inquire about the schedule of a specific club's matches.
When using the Premier League Companion feature, currently it cannot input prompts or commands manually. Copilot only presents three pre-existing questions that users can choose from. Examples of questions are "When is the summer series played?" or "When does Fullham play next?".
When selecting one of these questions, the AI will provide a brief context-specific answer. If there is further explanation available, the AI will provide a link as complete reference that can be accessed outside the conversation column with Copilot. "The Premier League Companion is continuously evolving, with new features that will be available soon," the management wrote.
